. "Teacher, how can I improve my English speaking?" I have heard this question thousands of times in China. The simple answer is, "practice," but since they have already heard this advice, they want more information. I could make an appointment and spend several hours explaining how they could improve their spoken English, but I would only have time to do this with a few students, and even some of those students would find it difficult to understand my explanations in English.
Now, we have a practical solution to this problem. People still ask me the question: "How can I improve my English speaking?" The answer to that question is simple: Read the book pictured above, 美国老师教你说出好英文. This book is available in bookstores all over China, and online. WATCH & LISTEN

Language experts often refer to "Krachen's Theory of Input," also known as the natural approach. The idea behind this theory points to the way children naturally learn their mother languages. They don't start with a dictionary, a vocabulary list, or even a series of exercises. They simply listen to adults speak, and eventually they are able to speak the language. Output is equally important as input for learning a foreign language, but without input, we have nothing to put out. Many experts believe that the younger a child is exposed to hearing a language, the more naturally they acquire the language when they are ready to actually "study." The items below are all excellent sources for your child's (or, if you are a teacher, your students') English listening pleasure. I recommend you click all of them and let your child or student listen and then choose his or her favorites. |
